Early this month, the DC Assistive Technology Program (DCATP) and the DC Public Library (DCPL) organized a Smart Home Exhibit! The exhibit took place at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library as part of DCPL’s Disability Pride Month Celebration. At the event, DCATP, DCPL volunteers, and vendors (OrCam and Hamilton Relay) introduced 110 visitors to new technologies that make everyday tasks more accessible to people with disabilities. For example, the exhibit included an Alexa device that lets people use voice commands to turn on lights, control house appliances, play music, play games, use the internet, and much more. Another example is the Hero Medication Dispenser. This technology keeps track of individuals' medications and dispenses them at a specified time. The Hero app also notifies individuals’ caregivers that their medications were dispensed. Other featured items included a robotic companion cat, a smart pet feeder, a video doorbell, and more. The 110 visitors described the exhibit as informative and fun!
DCATP was glad to work with great DCPL volunteers for this event and take part in DCPL’s celebration of Disability Pride Month!
