Access to Assistive Technology

Disability Rights DC (DRDC) helps advocate for people with disabilities to get medical equipment and assistive technology through DC Medicaid and other DC government programs. These devices include: wheelchairs (manual or power), walkers, canes, shower chairs, hospital beds, Hoyer lifts, communication devices, readers, and speech-activated software. DRDC also advocates for full access for people with disabilities using assistive technology and other accommodations at polling places, governmental facilities, and public accommodations, including healthcare facilities. DRDC does this advocacy to promote access to assistive technology under our Protection and Advocacy for Assistive Technology (PAAT) grant.

DRDC accepts cases related to protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities in the District of Columbia that fall within our PAAT grant priorities. Requests for assistance are assessed on a case-by-case basis under our priorities and based on resources.
